Soda Beat is London’s first regular integrated live music event for musicians with learning disabilities. Events are hosted by Club Soda and always feature Club Soda’s in-house band The Carbonators alongside guest musicians including artists from the UK’s rapidly growing learning-disabled music scene.
Soda Beat is produced by Club Soda, who runs some of London’s most popular learning disability arts events, including club nights, theatre performances and art exhibitions.
Live performances from:
The
Carbonators
The Carbonators aspire to be better
than The Beatles (in their own words). The band play rock, punk, blues, soul
and jazz all mixed up into good phonics. They came together in May 2011 while
rehearsing to play an improvised gig with Damo Suzuki (ex-CAN) and after that
just stuck together, writing and recording loads under the guidance of the
fantastic Richard Phoenix of Sauna Youth. Adrian Clarke is the main vocalist
and is responsible for most of the band’s lyrics.
The
Fatal Illusionists
The Fatal Illusionists were formed 3
years ago when they won funding from Age UK to start up a Karaoke Group.
Since then, with help of the Keep Smiling Fund,
the group has progressed into a full instrumental band that
rehearses and performs in the community as well as developing, composing and
writing their own material. The Fatal Illusionist’s are planning to
record and promote their own material in 2015.
Men
Diamler
You might have had the (good/bad)
fortune of seeing MEN DIAMLER (aka Richard Abberline), on one of his musical
jaunts through these isles in the last ten years. A bastard son of a
menage a trois of Jacques Brel, Iggy Pop and a kid's entertainer, Diamler
released several full length albums, played hundreds of shows and festivals around
the UK and beyond before hanging up his boxing gloves in 2012. As nothing
is sacred in the year of 2014, he is sort-of back to rattle the boards one more
time - throwing voices around corners where they might collide with the
ball-booming echo he left behind last time. Capable of moments of immense
beauty, unspeakable horror and improv comedy, sometimes all at once, nothing
will quite set you up for the experience.
